Spotted: JDM Mini-trucks on Domestic Dealer Lot. Wait, What?
Yeah, I know, two posts in one day. But this was just so bizarre I simply had to share.
Mum and I were down at our local Chevy dealer (she was looking at an HHR to replace her Chrysler PT Cruiser which is not exactly aging gracefully… that’s another story) and in amongst the leviathin Yukatahoesuburbalade’s was what looked to my untrained eye to be a jacked-up golf kart. Upon closer inspection, I learned it was actually… A Daihatsu Hi-Jet Deck Van! Really a neat car, it’s a Japanese kei-car (680cc engine, very very tiny.) This particular Hi-Jet was right hand drive, with a five-speed manual transmission and four wheel drive. Bizarre as can be.

But oh, friend, it doesn’t end there. Across the street at the Kia dealer(!) there were two more kei-car pickups, which are just adorable. A 4WD Suzuki Carry and another Daihatsu Hi-Jet, a 4WD pickup. Check out the sign on the side!
Then there’s the Suzuki Carry 4×4. Awesome. And a picture with yours truly for size comparison. These cars are tiny.
