Antique Automobile Club of America at Oakwood Park Pt.1
The Antique Automobile Club of America hosts a show every year at historic Oakwood Park in Raleigh, North Carolina. Although this year’s turnout was smaller than normal (probably due to the ever-rising price of gas), the turnout was still quite impressive. Here are a few of the gems from the show.
This original Thunderbird was in simply fantastic condition. I miss when America knew how to style a car, to be honest. Just gorgeous. It’s not hard to see why Ford just carbon-copied it for the last T-Bird. A car with stature and class.
what an elegant car. Love the “Thunderbird” valve cover on the V8.
This was a ‘65 Pontiac Le Mans with the fully loaded GTO package - 389ci Tri-Power V8 (triple 2-bbl carbs), 4 speed manual, short final drive and a posi-lock rear end. This one was clean enough to eat off of. I’m sure those triple carbs are fun to keep adjusted, though - yikes. Still, what a magnificent looking car - Pontiac has quite a ways to go to get their cars to be this desirable again.
If memory serves me right, this was a 1939 Buick Special.
This Triumph looked better than the day it popped out of the factory. There’s something to be said for a simplistic old British roadster, even if you know it’d be more frustrating that Chinese Water Torture.
This ‘67 911S is an original-owner car, and is strikingly immaculate. Fairly rare configuration, the high-output 2.0L flat-six. Neat car, has won quite a few awards in the AACA. I love how basic and unadorned old 911’s are in comparison to today’s techno-fest waterboxers.
This ancient Packard (1936 - thanks Paul!) was in quite good shape. Very elegant car. Coolest feature is under the hood, though…
an Inline 8-cylinder motor! Don’t see many of those any more. Quite neat.
More pictures coming soon!
